Candlelight Vigil

Liberty standing tall

More than ever our great country needs our prayers and support. Much of the world is in mourning and shock from the devasting, heartless slaughter of innocent victims by a source of evil that is incomprehensible. Please join our prayer vigil, there is power in numbers and even more power in prayers. If we join them together in numbers that circle this wounded planet, God will surely give back the healing and justice we all need so badly. Every candle lit with prayers will add another flicker of hope . Let's use the power we have to light this time of darkness and despair.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and friends who have lost loved ones in this horrible act of terrorism. It has certainly changed everyone`s lives forever. Our candle is lit to bring peace and comfort to everyone because we have all been affected and to those that continue to risk their lives for us.

Marilee ~ Sep 21, 2001 ~ CA

Another candle to light the way: May our young men and women in the armed forces see their way home safely when their work is done.

Fred R. ~ Sep 21, 2001 ~ Louisiana

I pray for all those who lost their lives in the terrible tragedy. It is difficult to understand why there is so much hate in the world that people can justify to themselves that this was an honorable thing to do. A "thank you" to the many rescue workers seems so inadequate. America is in for a change in priorities and our lives will be changed forever. We, and all the "freeworld", will prevail as we have in the past. ~GOD BLESS AMERICA~

Anonymous Prayer ~ Sep 21, 2001 ~

I can`t begin to say how sad the first news of the attcked made me. Words don`t exist, or I don`t know them. Then as the news and information followed, about the amount of damage and the numbers of people that died, I began to tear. I know that my prayers and the prayers of millions around the world go out to the families of the victims.May God bless the victims and care for them in their new place; and may god bless and care for the families left behind.

Lynn ~ Sep 21, 2001 ~ Orlaando, FL

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless You.

Liberty ~ Sep 21, 2001 ~ CA, USA

Today the images that people around the world equate with power and democracy are gone but "America" is not an image it is a concept. That concept is only strengthened by our pulling together as a team. If you want to kill us, leave us alone because we will do it by ourselves. If you want to make us stronger, attack and we unite. This is the ultimate failure of terrorism against The United States and the ultimate price we pay to be free, to decide where we want to work, what we want to eat, and when & where we want to go on vacation. The very moment the first plane was hijacked, democracy won.

Michelle ~ Sep 21, 2001 ~ Newport Beach, CA

In the most trying of times, in calamity, a moment in the garden can do wonders for the collective soul. What with the "beast crouching toward Bethlehem" and all that rot. These days absence of war is regarded as peace. But peace really connotes absence of fear. There would be peace only when no part of the world is afraid of or exploited by any other part. We find great solace and much strength in the phrase of scripture, `Resist not Evil`. It does not say resist evil in a non-violent way. The attempt to resist violence outwardly will only prolong its evil. When light shines, it dispels darkness. There is no resistance between light and darkness. Darkness merely vanishes. Those who believe in the power of love, non-violence and compassion should reiterate their full faith and try to persuade for right thinking. Peace is something mental and spiritual. If there be peace in our personal life, it will affect the whole world. It is a delusion that only when all nations are armed and strong, will there be peace among them. Efforts to establish non-violence through violence have failed innumerable times, and they shall not only fail in future too but shall also make the whole humanity unsuccessful. In fact, arms bear no relation to bravery. Hence do not be under any delusion that if we maintain any army, our cowardice will go away. When we keep any army, our cowardice does not leave us but we make fools of ourselves. A country will have to be defended not by arms but by fearlessness, ethical behavior and unity. The basic problem of the world today is the establishment of peace. Perhaps in no other age has there been such a world-hunger for peace. There are countries whose whole way of thought, up to yesterday, was deeply dyed in violence; today, even those country long to find release from violence. True, they go on increasing their armaments, but nevertheless they are wondering how to get rid of them. The sheer inertia of habit makes for the stockpiling of arms. But intellectually people have come to understand that arms will achieve nothing - nothing, that is, except losses for the poor and the blocking of all progress in real welfare, consequent on the immense expenditure of resources on the army. Even those countries where revolutions have taken place through bloodshed desire peace today. Why? Because whereas in the former days the weapons were in the hands of men, it is so no longer; men are now in the hands of their weapons. If the spark of war should not set the world on fire, no man will be able to control it. Mankind has, therefore, lost faith in the possibility of solving its problems through war or violence. That in itself is a great thing to have happened and the way forward is now open. If arms can no longer settle our disputes, then some other way of settling them must be found. If more of our women come forward with their divine qualities of restraint and modesty, and use their mother-power, they can establish the rule of compassion. In the path of violence, men will always lead. But in the part of non-violence, women can go ahead of them. So it is essential that women should lead, and that too in their own way. The way of women is the way of compassion. Being a parent gives you a whole new lease on the loss of life. Even as it vaunts into surreally, suprareality, the core of empathy touches on the deep waters of the all-of-us. Scoundrels and saints all, we are so beautifully flawed, and then dust. Whole cityfuls of billowing dust. May the blessing of this awesome Universe be upon us all. We`ve lost over 6000 of our relatives... all human beings, all treasures - you will not be forgotten. In love, in peace, Michelle

My heart goes out to all of the families who have suffered greatly because of the tragedy that occured on Tuesday Sept. 11, 2001. No words can express all of my sympathy, hurt, and sadness. I pray for your strength, courage, and ability to move forward. Never allow these heartless cowards to feel as if they have conquered. For they have only made us stronger, grow as a nation to love, honor, and come together, as we the "Americans" are so capable of doing. Today, tomorrow, and always....My deepest prayers are with you all.

A special prayer for the family and friends of Vinny Damadeo, who is still missing in the aftermath of the WTC attacks. May God give you hope and strength to bear whatever must be borne in the coming days.

Adam Safranek ~ Sep 21, 2001 ~ Winchester, Va.

For the past 9 days I have been shocked by this senseless tragedy. I knew none of these people who were killed, but they were still my brothers and sisters! They were HUMAN! It`s hard to face over 6,000 deaths and still be able to cope, but I take comfort in the fact that God must have sheltered them in their final moments and that they went to a much better place after they died. So many people don`t believe in God, but we ask him for help in times of need. I have to believe or I`ll go berserk. All I`ve ever wanted is peace in the world. Peace seems to be a dying thing. Let`s fight terrorism and revive peace! As hard as the death of thousands of people is to take, think of the lyrics to Dream Theater`s song "The Spirit Carries On" Death is but a transition. God bless the USA and may you rest assured my prayers will be with you not for weeks to come, but for the following years or more to the point as long as I live. My cousin flies a commercial airliner and I only live 40 minutes from the Pentagon so I`m having trouble dealing with this. Pray for me too. More people have been affected than you would think. Once again, God bless and thanks to the firemen, policemen, and EMTs who were killed trying to save lives. God be with their families. Let`s try and keep strong. United we stand, divided we fall. We WILL NOT let these cowards win! If you want to feel free to check out my new Yahoo club: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/terminateterrorism My prayers and well wishes are with you. Adam Safranek

I cannot fathom how anyone could be so void of human kindness to inflict anything like this on the greatest people in the world. Obviously, it strikes close to home for Canada, seeing as no land in the world is more significant to our own nation than the United States. I feel tremendous sympathies for all who lost someone close to them, be they family or friend. There is no way to comprehend what has taken place. In this time of immense sorrow and pain, I wish to let all our brothers Stateside know we are thinking of you, and will be by your side til the end of the battle to ensure that nothing even remotely close to this happens again. God Bless the U.S.A.
